Cape Elizabeth is taking a powerful stand against domestic abuse this July with a community-wide effort led by Finding Our Voices and the Thomas Memorial Public Library. The month has officially been declared “Cape Elizabeth Breaks the Silence of Domestic Abuse Month,” and throughout July, survivors will be sharing their stories in deeply personal and public ways-from lawn signs around town to a panel discussion at the library on July 15 at 6:30 p.m. That event is free and open to all, with seven survivors aged 21 to 85 speaking about what they’ve lived through, including library director Rachel Davis, who helped spearhead the effort.

There’s also an exhibit by local students on toxic celebrity relationships, and the library has created quiet, supportive spaces where people can access free books and resources discreetly. Even local dentists are involved-offering free dental care to abuse survivors. It’s all part of a grassroots push to break the stigma and let people know they’re not alone. You can learn more at Thomas Memorial Library’s website or Finding Our Voices.
