A big night of blues is coming to the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor on Friday, July 10th. Harmonica ace James Montgomery has earned the “legendary” tag through a stellar career that spans five decades. Florida Music Hall of Fame Inductee Sean Chambers teams up with the Savoy Brown Rhythm Section, comprising Garnet Grimm on drums and Pat De Salvo on bass. Put them all together on one stage and musical magic is guaranteed to ensue!

Growing up in Detroit, Montgomery learned first-hand from the masters–James Cotton, John Lee Hooker, and Jr. Wells–at the legendary Chess Mate club. Over the years, he’s carried on in the tradition and continues to be a vital presence in Blues as one of the most dynamic performers on the scene. In 1970, while attending Boston University, Montgomery formed the James Montgomery Band. Within two years, the band was among the hottest acts in Boston, along with J. Geils and Aerosmith, and they were quickly signed to a multi-album deal with Capricorn Records.

Montgomery has toured with many major artists, including Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, the Allman Brothers, Steve Miller; and jammed on stage with B.B.King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Jr. Wells, James Cotton, Charlie Daniels, Laverne Baker, and Patti LaBelle, among others.

Sean Chambers is a guitar icon, as well as an outstanding singer; Florida-born, Chambers began his career in the Blues back in 1998 when he toured with the legendary Hubert Sumlin as his guitarist and band leader until 2003. During his tenure with Mr. Sumlin, Britain’s Guitarist magazine named Chambers as “one of the top 50 blues guitarists of the last century.” Music critic Phillip Smith said, “The Blues is most definitely part of Sean Chambers’ DNA. Chambers’ playing is an extraordinary example of live blues-rock at its mightiest.” And USA Today’s Jerry Shriver said, “Guitarist Chambers achieves the distinctly American blues/soul/country/rock sound that the Stones used to aspire to long ago.”

The Savoy Brown Rhythm Section legendary backing duo of DeSalvo and Grimm played for the iconic British blues-rock band Savoy Brown. Following the passing of Savoy Brown’s founder Kim Simmonds in 2022, DeSalvo and Grimm joined  forces with Chambers.
