For the first time since 2019, the annual Bids for Kids auction will be held in-person on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Brick South at Thompson’s Point in Portland, ME.

Westbrook, ME – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine (BBBSSM) is excited to be hosting their BIGGEST and most significant fundraising event, Bids for Kids, in-person again on May 20. The event will feature live and silent auctions, Match of the Year awards, and unique opportunities for guests to contribute financially to BBBSSM’s mission.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine’s dedicated community of donors, corporate partners, volunteers, and leadership will all be in attendance as the organization celebrates their belated 25th Anniversary, a milestone that was met in 2020.

Since its launch in October 1995, this Big Brothers Big Sisters agency has matched thousands of children and teens with a mentor (Big). Behind every one of those matches is a child whose life was changed by their mentor– sometimes in small ways, sometimes in dramatic ways, and ALWAYS in better ways. Those changes have been guiding the lives of each one of those kids – many of them adults now – for 27 years.

The 2022 Bids for Kids auction serves as a celebration of those accomplishments, as well as an opportunity to look forward to the next chapter of helping kids and teens in Southern Maine reach their full potential. The funds raised will ensure BBBSSM has the resources needed to recruit more quality mentors and match more adolescents for many years to come.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Since its formation in 1995, BBBSSM has matched over 3,400 children and teens with a carefully screened, trained, and committed mentor. On average we serve over 350 youth ages 7-17 from 27 communities throughout Cumberland and York counties. As a local affiliate of BBBS of America, BBBSSM adheres to nationally adopted standards and best practices for child safety, staff/volunteer training, and match support for mentoring programs. While many young people who join the program have experienced significant life challenges, BBBSSM recognizes (and data shows) that all young people can benefit from a mentor relationship with a caring, trusted adult.
