An international cast of 41 dancers, aged 9-26, from Canada, Japan, Mexico, and 14 states have arrived in Maine to take part in Bossov Ballet Theatre’s annual summer performance intensive held at Maine Central Institute (MCI) in Pittsfield, Maine. The dancers are thrilled to get back to live theatre on July 30-31, to present the 3-Act classical ballet, Don Quixote, at the Collins Center for the Arts, in Orono, Maine. The production is staged by Natalya Getman based on the original Choreography by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky, to music by Ludwig Minkus.

The young performers are celebrating a return to a traditional theatre setting, following a 19-month hiatus, and are thrilled to make that comeback at the Collins Center for the Arts. In addition to the difficulty of trying to stay in shape at home, in the dorm, or in a socially distanced studio set-up while wearing a mask, these dancers have been unable to tap into the synergy a live audience brings to feed the emotional and physical demands of their artform.

Suitable for the entire family, Don Quixote takes the audience on a rollicking ride through the Spanish landscape, in this charming love story from Cervantes novel, “Don Quixote de la Mancha.” As the Don follows his quest for love and adventure, he meets bullfighters, gypsies, fandango dancers, dangerous windmills, and the sassiest heroine in the classical ballet canon!

Tickets are available for purchase for $25-35 at the door; by mail at Box Office, 5746 Collins Center for the Arts, University of Maine, Orono, Maine 04469-5746; by telephone at (207) 581-1755 or (800) 622-8499, or online at www.collinscenterforthearts.com. Performances will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30th and at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Hutchins Concert Hall at the Collins Center for the Arts, 2 Flagstaff Road, Orono, Maine.

Led by Artistic Director Natalya Getman, Bossov Ballet Theatre at Maine Central Institute is both a performing company and an international pre-professional ballet school.  The program offers students a unique opportunity to study and perform classical ballet as part of the academic curriculum, allowing them to earn full academic credit for ballet training.
