Hallowell Pride Alliance (HPA) announces that this year’s Pride Parade and Festival will be held in Hallowell on Saturday, June 4th. This year’s theme “Love Will Keep Us Together”. Festival organizer Alex AuCoin says, “The theme is intended to bring about a celebration of the power of love to unite people despite all of the many challenges of recent years including a Pandemic, political divisiveness, and war.” HPA asks participants to take that in whatever direction inspires you. “Some might opt to jump on the disco train in honor of the era in which the song by this title was top on the charts, others might show visible signs of unity across identities or national origin, while others might choose to show an explosion of love and hearts,” says Alex. Whatever you choose, come join the celebration together in-person again.
The festival will be held in Granite City Park from 12-4pm. This year’s festival will host many non-profit organizations and an array of craft vendors offering unique gifts and products. It is an opportunity for people to learn about support services, education and advocacy available to members of the LGBTQ+ community and others in our area. Vendors include local artisans with many unique products. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Ian Parker Foundation, HPA will also be hosting music on the bandstand to pump up the celebration from 12-4. Featured acts will be Random Ideas from 12:30-2pm and Scolded Dogs from 2:30-4.
The parade will be held at 2pm from Temple Street and will travel north on Water Street to NAMI. The parade organizers are eager to welcome back Scooter riders, local businesses, roller skaters, Drag Queens and many more vehicles and floats. Walkers are also welcome. Downtown Hallowell will be flooded with love and celebration! To learn more about these events go to https://www.facebook.com/hallowellpridealliance.
