The Maine Irish Heritage Center is honored to welcome the LÉ James Joyce to Portland. The ship will dock at Fore Points Marina on Portland’s East End, near the historic Irish neighborhoods of Munjoy Hill and India Street, and on the waterfront where many Irish found jobs.
LÉ James Joyce will be welcomed into Portland Harbor on the morning of Friday, September 16th, by the United States Coast Guard, Portland Tugboat LLC, and Portland Fireboats. The view of Portland from the harbor will be like the one many Irish immigrants saw as they arrived here, with the bell tower of the former St. Dominic’s now home to the Maine Irish Heritage Center, visible from the harbor and the dock. The Portland Longshoremen’s Benevolent Society will provide line handlers to tie up the ship and to let it go when it departs.
Tours
The public is invited to tour the ship. Open tours will be held on Friday, September 16th from 2pm to 5pm, Saturday, September 17th, from 10am to 2:30pm, and on Sunday, September 18th, from 10am to 5pm. LÉ James Joyce will be docked at Fore Points Marina. 1 Marina Way, Portland, ME 04101.
