Futures For Standardbreds (FFS), a Buxton-based non-profit organization committed to retraining off-the-track Standardbreds as they transition from life on the track to life as pleasure horses, is hosting a fundraiser at Funky Bow Brewery on Sunday, September 28, Noon-6 p.m.

The event will feature raffle items, desserts by donation, and a visiting ambassador horse. There will also be food for purchase and live music by Funky Bow favorite Jeff Pellerin. Proceeds from the event help off-set costs for board, vet care, training, equipment and more.

“When horses retire from the racetrack, they need a retirement plan,” said Kristen Pretorius, local farrier and FFS board member. “They have to retire at age 14, and many live to be 30, One of the best attributes of this breed is their adaptability. They can learn to excel at trail riding, dressage, western pleasure, pleasure driving and more.”

Horses in the program undergo training under saddle and are then matched to qualifying adoption applicants.
